Brian Eno on the long now, the big here and music as plateau

“I thought … I want to make a kind of music that had the long now and the big here in it. And for me that meant this idea of expanding the music out to the horizons. In terms of space, you were not aware of the edges of the music. I thought, I want to make a music where you just wouldn’t know what was music and what wasn’t. Where it was a plateau …”

Blues Control at Lost Horse

As Blues Control, Russ Waterhouse and Lea Cho create a righteous blend of space rock, spiritual jazz and New Age music that sounds like little else. The Coopersburg, PA-based duo has been making albums since 2007 for top shelf labels like Siltbreeze, Not Not Fun, Woodsist and Holy Mountain. In 2011 they issued an absolute classic of contemporary cosmic music in collaboration with zither guru Laraaji, best known for his Brian Eno-produced album from 1980,Ambient 3: Day of Radiance. Artist Kathy Rose directed their latest video (see above) for “Opium Den/Fade to Blue.” [Video via artinfo]

They’re on tour now in support of the excellent Valley Tangents album on Drag City, and they’ll be delivering their astral guitar/electronics/keyboard jams for FREE at the Lost Horse this Monday (11 February 2013).

Check out a live performance of “Iron Pigs” on Drag City Limits after the jump …

Chambo’s 2012 Heavy Rotations

ID Music Holiday Greetings

Chambo’s Top ID Music Jams from 2012, in alphabetical order:

Actress

Actress – R.I.P.

As we wrote once before … “Less suffocated techno. More shiny fractal ambience. “Shadow from Tartarus” sounds like ice tinkling off the conning tower of Porter Ricks‘ submarine after surfacing in the sparkling glare of Arctic sunlight.”

Anywhere

Anywhere – Anywhere

Mike Watt, Cedric Bixler-Zavala and a dude we’d never heard of from the awesomely named “Liquid Indian” got together for these totally mellow Sandy Bull-inspired astral jams and nobody really said much about it, but it’s amazing.

Ancient Forever

Ashan – Ancient Forever

Sits next to Stag Hare’s Spirit Canoes, Deep Magic’s Solar Meditations, White Rainbow’s New Clouds and Thoughts on Air’s Mallo Yallo as a stone classic of contemporary New Age. Flutes, guitars and all kinds of jingle-jangling old growth vibes.
