Arp meets ID Music for a TX-Size New Age Showdown

ID Music:Real News

Inter-Dimensional Music is back on the Marfa Public Radio airwaves Sunday from 9-11pm (CST). That’s tonight!

We’ll start off with conversation + a selection of proto-New Age vibes from Alexis Georgopolous of Arp. The full configuration of Arp performs here in Marfa as part of Ballroom Marfa and Mexican Summer’s free festival next Saturday, March 8, at El Cosmico. Quilt, No Joy, Weyes Blood and Connan Mockasin too. More on that at Ballroom Marfa.

Second hour is yours truly rolling through a set of rusticated Aquarian visions inspired in part by hearing that MV & EE cover of “Shotgun Willie” that’s being passed around. Puff puff give!

Also! ID Music is co-presenting the New Bums show coming up on March 11 at the Marfa Book Co., so we’ll likely get into some old bum music from Skygreen Leopards and Six Organs of Admittance.

We’ll see you on-air tonight at 93.5FM or marfapublicradio.org, and online whenever at interdimensionalmusic.com. We’ll post up some archived shows someday …

P.S. if you’re in Marfa and want to take a look at the South Plateau Adobe Ruin squat installation that’s happening next door to my house, drop me a line and we’ll connect.

P.P.S. Our pals at Arthur Magazine are in the final hours of a massive once-in-a-lifetime closeout sale, including the ID Music “Backcountry Chillout” mixtape. CHECK OUT THESE DEALS!

Mexican Summer Fest in Marfa

Tune in for a sneak preview of Ballroom Marfa and Mexican Summer’s upcoming free day festival at El Cosmico as Arp’s Alexis Georgopolous joins me for a discussion of spiritual dimensions of artistic practice + a guest selection of transcendent proto-New Age vibrations.

We’re live on Marfa Public Radio this Sunday, March 2, 2014 from 9-11pm. That’s 93.5FM here on the Marfa Plateau, and streaming live worldwide at marfapublicradio.org.

The free Mexican Summer Festival kicks off at 2pm on March 8, 2014 at El Cosmico. More info to come at Ballroom Marfa.

Back Pain Music/Inter-Dimensional Metal

Lycus – Tempest: Long form funeral doom from Oakland! Very pretty droning parts! Good for when waiting for meds to kick in. The cover is a psychedelic shipwreck painting!
Agrimonia – Rites of Separation: Sort of a super melodic crust/sludge/black metal blend that is also super pretty for when the meds are peaking. I think this is the prettiest metal album in a long time. Trivia: They are Swedes and the singer is a lady.
Nails – Abandon All Life: The best hardcore album in awhile! Good for when the meds are starting to fade.
Saved the most apt for last: An album about multiple sclerosis from Tad (of Tad), a dude from Yob and another guy I didn’t know who is the one who actually has MS. The band is called LUMBAR of course …
I hope that helps a little bit? Rest up.

Daniel Chamberlin writes:

There’s a good reason that Inter-Dimensional Music is the number one New Age radio broadcast in the Big Bend region of Far West Texas: Since we first started transmitting on Marfa Public Radio back in the spring of 2010, each song we’ve played has been selected with the goal of offering all the souls passing through the Chihuahuan Desert a soundtrack worthy of our luminescent high country vistas.

So whether you’re waiting in line at the Sierra Blanca Border Patrol checkpoint; watching the lights of Boquillas from the South Rim of the Chisos; channeling the spirit of curandera Jewel Babb deep in the Quitman Mountains; decoding starlight vibrations at the McDonald Observatory; vibing on the sky island rhythms of the Davis Mountains…

Tune in to KRTS, Marfa Public Radio this Sunday night from 9-11p (CST) for a very special Inter-Dimensional Music featuring an hour of fresh tunes from Marfa-based electronic musician Celia Hollander, aka $3.33.

Plenty of Texas heads are still ringing from her recent psychedelic desert R&B AV collages in Marfa and Austin, opening for William Tyler and Demdike Stare, respectively; regular ID Music listeners will recognize some of her more ethereal compositions from past shows.

Celia will be joining ID Music host Daniel Chamberlin from 9-10pm. Chamberlin plugs his computer into the soundboard from 10-11p, delivering the usual mellow set of kosmiche slop, maybe some Terry Riley or something from the Holter/Barwick-dominated genre of angelic slow jams.

Listen at 93.5FM if you’re out here in the Big Bend, otherwise point your computer at marfapublicradio.org for the live stream.
